Frequently asked questions
Q: Why does the cost of my auto insurance increase as the value of my
car decreases?
A: The value of a car depreciates every year, while the cost of parts
and labor continue to increase if the car is damaged. Also, we are a
suit-conscious society who causes liability coverage to increase in cost.
Q: Why do I need that much insurance on my home? I could not sell it
for that amount.
A: The amount of insurance on your home is based upon the replacement
value, not the market value.
Q: Why do I need medical insurance with my auto policy when I have medical
coverage at work, too?
A: Michigan no-fault insurance is required with either primary or excess
medical under personal injury protection. If you have medical insurance
through your employer your auto insurance can be written excess which
reduces your auto insurance premium.
Q: Does my auto insurance cover a rental car?
A: Yes. The same coverage applies to your rented vehicle as it applies
to your personal car.
Q: How much liability insurance do I need?
A: Each family's needs are different. A family needs to calculate their
financial risk then purchase an amount of liability insurance to cover
that risk.
Q: What is uninsured motorist coverage?
A: This is bodily injury coverage that you can add to your policy that
protect you in the event someone in your vehicle is injured by another
uninsured at-fault driver. This coverage is optional.
Q: What perils am I covered for on my homeowner's insurance?
A: If you have a Homeowners-3 (HO-3) policy you have "all risk" coverage
on the dwelling and "named-peril" coverage on all the contents.
Q: I lost my ring, do I have coverage?
A: No. There is no coverage for loss of a ring unless you have a separate
rider that schedules the ring. An appraisal is required to schedule an
item such as jewelry.
